Look what we just received! Yippeeeee. Fantastic to meet with Gina and Sophie from the Unpackit NZ Packaging Awards and get our hands on this awesome certificate. Official presentation for the gorgeous handcrafted Unpackit Awards trophy made from recycled timber will be happening next week at a lucky Bin Inn store.
It is fantastic news that Bin Inn has taken out this year’s Best Packaging Award in the NZ Unpackit Awards. We are thrilled to be announced as the winner and wanted to say a huge thanks to everyone who voted for us. We are so proud to be voted as the winner. With over 10,000 people voting it is a excellent result and great to see so many people concerned about packaging waste.
The Unpackit NZ Packaging Awards is the people’s choice awards for NZ Packaging so it is fantastic news that Bin Inn took out this years title for Best Packaging in the Unpackit Awards. The 2012 Unpackit Awards is all about finding NZ’s best and worst packaging.
The Unpackit NZ Packaging Awards is a great project to help people to choose smart packaging so they can reduce, reuse and recycle. The Unpackit Awards are a fantastic initiative by Wanaka Wastebusters to help raise awareness about packaging waste.
Unfortunately the winner of the worst packaging in the Unpackit Awards went to Foodstuffs for their carrots that were packaged on a polystyrene meat tray and then wrapped in plastic!
Unpackit Sophie Ward said the competition for both awards was intense this year, and the high number of votes showed that people really care about packaging and its impact on the environment. “The plastic-wrapped vegetables on a meat-tray just managed to beat the individually wrapped prunes to take the Worst Packaging title, but there were only a few votes in it” she said. “There’s a lot of ridiculous packaging out there, so it’s quite an achievement to be voted the worst packaging in New Zealand.”
Bin Inn is coming third so far – we would really appreciate your vote but hurry voting ends 30th May so please vote now www.unpackit.org.nz
Bin Inn is one of the 8 finalists in the “best packaging” category. Bin Inn are proud to be selected as a finalist in the Unpackit NZ Packaging Awards as this is a great project is to help people to choose smart packaging so they can reduce, reuse and recycle. The Unpackit Awards are a fantastic initiative by Wanaka Wastebusters to help raise awareness about packaging waste.
You can also help raise money for your school or community group by voting, just cast your vote for the best packaging and the worse packaging and then select the name of the school or community group. The Unpackit team is giving a prize of $1,000 to the school and $1,000 to the not-for-profit community group supported by the most voters. Plus they will give registered schools and community groups 20 cents each time a voter supports them (up to the first 10,000 votes in the Awards).
To help reduce packaging we welcome customers to bring their own containers and bottles to refill from the self selection bins and barrels. Why pay for packaging when you can recycle by refilling your own container or bottle?
Fingers crossed – we would really appreciate your vote – http://www.unpackit.org.nz

Bin Inn Hastings, the 36th Bin Inn store in New Zealand opened in Hastings on the 22nd of February. Check out the new store at 440 Heretaunga Street West. Congratulations to Kashmir Singh and his team for the long awaited opening of Bin Inn Hastings. Kashmir mentioned it has taken a long time to find the ideal premises but he is very pleased to be in the main street location of Heretaunga Street. They didn’t have time to have a red ribbon cutting ceremony but Kashmir said “It was great to finally be able to open the front door on Monday morning, all our hard work is worthwhile based on the great comments from customers in just these last 2 days that we have been open. Customers were very positive about having a new Bin Inn store in Hawkes Bay.” Prior to the opening of Bin Inn Hastings, the only other Bin Inn store in the Hawkes Bay region was Bin Inn Taradale at 281A Gloucester Street. Kashmir Singh also owns Bin Inn Taradale but is busy focusing on his newest store of Bin Inn Hastings. Like the Taradale store, customers can expect the same great range of wholefoods and specialty groceries. Everything from grains, flours, pasta, rice, herbs and spices to all those hard to find baking ingredients. Plus there is a huge range of gluten free foods to cater for those who are gluten intolerant.
